Our Richmond FoundersThe Games are a community-led initiative as a collaboration of the city’s seniors, sports associations, and multicultural communities. Richmond’s bid was developed by Richmond Sports Council, the collective body of the city’s sports groups, and is directed by a community volunteer society. The purpose of the BC Seniors Games is to promote activity and wellness among BC’s seniors. The number of seniors is increasing by eight per cent annually, and in 2015, BC’s seniors will outnumber children. As Canada’s healthiest city, with an average life span of 83 years, Richmond epitomizes the games objectives of seniors’ health and wellness. |

Past
One of the exciting things about the 2009 Richmond BC Seniors games is that we get to use the new Olympic Oval! This facility houses a 400-metre speed skating track and seats approximately 8,000 people. The Richmond Olympic Oval is located within 13 hectares (32 acres) of city-owned land along the banks of the Fraser River, just minutes from Vancouver International Airport. |
